Out at the marine I'm still working on that 72' houseboat but getting a lot of attention from some of the owners of the other houseboats. A great bunch of people! Have some come up and check out my work (It's a lot more like a full on paint correction on a badly neglected hard clear coat automotive paint) and asking what I charge for something like this.

I talk to them a little to get a feel for how they take care of there boat and what their expecting out of a detail and wanting. I then ask their permission to do a test spot and ask which houseboat is there's.

Right now the only washless rinse type of cleaner I've got and use for this is Meguiars Detailer Line D120 Glass Cleaner mixed a little stronger then the 10:1 on the gel coat and it seams to work fine for cleaning off for a test spot.

These pics here are of 2 test spots I did for a couple gentleman and used the Marine 31 Heavy-Cut Cleaner Wax, Flex 3401, LC wool pad about 15lbs. pressure went over about 5 section passes because both boats weren't in all bad condition because of a little gloss at different angles but did have that chalky residue come off on my hand as I rubbed over it.

Impressive results from a 1 step. I may have to pick some up.

How is it for wiping off?

Wipe off is easy, I use the thick terry towels with the blue lines on them that you can buy at wally world in the 9 pk.

Marine 31 is amazing, run out of my Heavy-Cut Oxidation Cleaner and went and got some Buff Magic from a local marina shop but not to impressed. Have to hurry up and get me Gallons of all the Marine 31 Products!

Love this stuff, starting to get a feel for it and feel comfortable now and starting to know which product to use for test spots and starting to think about how I can get better results using different combo's like I do in auto finishes but with the marine 31 line.

I see good things ahead for me, Gel Coat and Marine 31! Don't wear my Kinder car care shirts out at the marina hardly any more since I got a Marine 31 T-shirt but now I need to get me 5 more Marine 31 T-shirts. LOL!! :partyguy:

Thanks for the info. I have some marine 31 products coming this week. Are you working down by dale hollow or lake Cumberland? I visited that area when my wife and I where dating 10 years ago. I always said I would like to go back with a boat someday. What a beautiful area to work. No shortage of boats either. I think you will be busy!

Just wanted to inform that the gentleman that owns the houseboat in the first picture contacted me and give me the go ahead to start on it next week.

I've learned so much these last 3 weeks working on this houseboat that is over 20 years old and hasn't been cared for as well as it should have been but hopefully I can stay busy and start making some money.

Had the owner of the marina tell me that he's thinking about having me detail he's houseboat before winter and have 3 more gentlemen that are still thinking about the quotes I already gave them.

Went last weekend and looked around at the marina in the next county and thinking about hurrying up and going to it maybe next weekend with my Marine 31 shirt, my flex bag with my 3401 and my Marine 31 products and pads to see if I can get some test spots done on some houseboats there to get my name and Marine 31's name out there.

Maybe in a couple more weeks going to go to the 3rd marina and get started there as well, I'm hoping that I can have them scheduled 1 after the other and maybe just a 1 step Heavy Cut Cleaner/Wax and get in and out in 4 days or less and get some coating test spots on several as well!

Getting ready to make my 4th or 5th order for more Marine 31 products and this time is going to cover washing product and the marine 31 bucket with dolley and can't forget the grit guard, but Mike have a question for you about the foam gun and the wash soap.

Going to be using the Marine 31 Gel Coat Wash & Wax With Carnauba, I read to use 2 ounces per 3 gallons of water for heavely soiled gel coats but in the regular foam gun for water hose that I have, how many ounces do I apply in my foam gun?

I just ordered some myself up on Lake Erie. Looking forward to getting it and using it on the topsides/interior of my Pursuit 3070 CC! I love these products. Thank Marine 31!

:welcome: to Marine 31! Karls,

I've got a 32oz. bottle and a 64oz. jug of the Heavy Cut Cleaner Wax and I will be getting me a gallon of it pretty soon.

With the 3401 Flex and LC wool pad this HCCW sure gets the dullness out and brings some fantastic gloss back to the Gel Coat.

Do you have any pics ?

You're going to OWN these Marinas!

but in the regular foam gun for water hose that I have, how many ounces do I apply in my foam gun?

Just happen to have an article on this topic... info below and look at the pictures...

How to use a Foam Gun to wash your boat! (http://www.marine31online.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38)

Foam Guns are cool tools to help you get your boat cleaner safer. The Marine 31 Foam Gun together with the Marine 31 Gel Coat Wash & Wax with Carnauba create tons of foamy suds that cling to the side of your hull give the cleaning agents time to dissolve, loosen and emulsify dirt, grime and scum off your boat's hull.

The luxurious suds also hyper-lubricate the surface to help make washing new boats and painted boats safer by helping to reduce wash-induced scratches.

Lets take a look as Nick shows us how to use the Marine 31 Foam Gun with Marine 31 Gel Coat Wash & Wax with Carnauba.

Step 1

First fill the container with water to just a few inches below the top...

http://www.marine31online.com/gallery/data/508/Marine_31_Foam_Gun_001.jpg

Tip: Fill container with water first and then add your soap. If you add your soap first you'll create so many suds you'll end up with a container of suds instead of soap solution.

http://www.marine31online.com/gallery/data/508/Marine_31_Foam_Gun_002.jpg

Step 2
Next add 3-4 ounces of Marine 31 Gel Coat Wash & Wax with Carnauba.

This is key too....

Step 4 - Choose how much suds you want

How to adjust the metering slide bar
Your Marine 31 Foam Gun comes with a metering slide bar that allows you to adjust the concentration of soap solution to water.

6 hole stops on the top of the metering bar
Looking at the metering bar from the top you'll see 6 equal sized holes. These are "stops" that lock the metering bar into position with the use of a spring loaded check ball inside the mixing chamber.

You can twist the metering bar sideways to push it in or out of the mixing chamber when choosing a solution level and then twist it back to the upright position to lock it into place.

Maximum Suds = Metering Bar pushed all the way to the left side.

http://www.marine31online.com/gallery/data/508/Marine_31_Foam_Gun_008.jpg

Minimum Suds = Metering Bar pushed all the way to the right side.

http://www.marine31online.com/gallery/data/508/Marine_31_Foam_Gun_009.jpg

Turn the metering bar over and it will all make sense!

5 graduated holes on the bottom of the metering bar
The smaller the hole the less soap solution that can be drawn into the mixing chamber and thus the less foamy suds. Just behind Nick's finger, opposite of the hole stops on the other side there is no graduate hole, this is last section is solid to enable you to switch to just water for rinsing.

http://www.marine31online.com/gallery/data/508/Marine_31_Foam_Gun_010.jpg

The larger the holes the more soap solution that can be drawn into the mixing chamber and thus more suds will be created.

Thanks Mike appreciate the article, I've got the Gilmore foam gun with the smaller container for auto use. Will try to find me a larger container until I get me a Marine 31 foam gun.

I'm going to be getting me a briggs & Stratton electric presser washer from lowes this weekend, it has 1800 PSI and offers up to 4.0 GPM but I'm not all to familiar with using a foam gun with a presser washer will mine work or do I need a different kind or set-up?

Is that the lake country Purple wool pad you are using on your flex? Does the heavy cut cleaner wax have a longer work time then the heavy cut compound? I used the heavy cut compound with my dewalt 849x but wished it had a longer working time. I could barely get in 2 passes. The second pass there was not much product left. I did not try with my flex as I used that to polish. I need to get some of that cleaner wax!!!

No Brandon, I don't much care for the lake country wool pads especialy for something as oxidized as this houseboat I've been working on. I'm going to try them out again at a later date but for now not to happy or impressd with them.

I've been doing all my work now with the Lake Country LC-41-005 7.5 Twisted Wool Cutting Pads. Keeping clean with a spur and my grit guard pad washer. Work a small area using a pencil size line or two on high speed and often times apply another line before finished and then spur after ever section. Have had no gum-up issue's with my wool pads and the HCCW and work a area about my shoulder width apart and go over about 4 to 5 section passes before wipe off and then check area before moving on.

Ran out of my oxidation cleaner last week and tried buff magic's cleaner on a section and wasn't to impressed with it but got half that area finished. When my bottle of oxidation cleaner came in I started at the far end and worked my way towards the buff magic area, when I met and overlaped I looked at the joinning of both products and you could certainly tell a much brighter, cleaner looking white gel coat from the Marine 31 oxidation cleaner.

Get you a bottle of the Oxidation Cleaner to have on hand for those tough oxidized gel coats and to really bring out the true color of gel coat, I would have been in trouble if not for having a bottle. Great stuff!

Thanks on the pad info, I will order some along with the heavy cut wax. I have some of the compound left for some troubled spots. Keep up the good work and I think you will soon have more work than time.

Sorry Brandon just now seen my mistake and can't correct on original post so I'll correct it on here.

I meant to write I don't much care for the Lake Country Foam Wool Purple pads. Sorry about that!
