The Marine31Online Roll Call Thread (http://www.marine31online.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28)

I've used this type of thread very successfully over the years because I find,
A: I much prefer to talk to someone, (even on a forum when we're typing), by referring to them by their first name instead of their forum nickname. Talking/Typing to someone by their forum nickname is awkward.

B: When I first started posting to the Internet in 1994 I found I tend to make forum friends for life and it's nice to be able to talk/type to your friend by their first name. I tend to get to travel a bit and sometimes my travels includes events and this means getting the chance to meet the people I type to on the forums and it's a lot more enjoyable at these events to meet and get to know the person behind the nickname by their first real name.
For what it's worth, I've used my real name when posting to forums ever since 1994 and knock on cyber-wood, I've never been the victim of any type of identity theft. I have had riff-raff join other forums under my real name pretending to be me and make fools of themselves but that's never a problem because time and a person's posting history always proves and shows a person's true character.

That all said, I do understand the desire and need for personal privacy. Even so, I would like to ask all members of this forum to reply to this thread and share either their first name or a first real nickname to go with their forum nickname to make this community a lot more friendly and yes, even more professional.

Please use this format as it makes it so much faster and easier to update the thread because I can quickly copy and paste your forum nickname and first name to the list. Not that it's a huge time saver but I tend to be a busy guy...

Here's the format, please use exact spelling of your nickname, that includes upper and lower case letters and note there is a space then a dash then a space between the forum nickname and your first name. Like this,

SaltyDog - Jim

Hi Sharon,

Welcome to Marine31Online! :welcome:

I just read your PM, thank you for the kind words. As far sharing pictures in a thread on this forum or any forum you first need to upload them to the gallery.

You get free gallery space here on Marine31 and I use it all the time.

I've written articles on how to upload pictures to the gallery but they are all on AGO, below are the links but the info will work the same way on this gallery.

Modern cameras, even cell phone cameras take HUGE photos so before you can upload them you need to make them smaller.

This is for PC computers, I'm not a MAC guy "yet".

How to resize your photos with Easy Thumbnails - Free software (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/tips-techniques-how-articles-interacting-discussion-forums/35250-how-resize-your-photos-easy-thumbnails-free-software.html)

After you resize the picture then you need to upload it to the gallery.

After you have uploaded the picture now you can insert it.

How to insert an image from your photo gallery into your message (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/how-articles-discussion-forums/21313-how-insert-image-your-photo-gallery-into-your-message.html)

There are extras if you feel like learning more about how to work with pictures in the Internet world.
