My question is how often should you change discs?

Or how many discs will I need for a 25' offshore boat with high freeboard?

About the only way to tell when a sanding disc is used-up or "spent" is to watch as you sand for slurry to appear. Slurry is the water and abraded gel-coat which makes a milky looking film on the surface.

When you're sanding and you no longer see slurry building up the disc is probably spent.

For a boat that size? I'd suggest about 2-3 boxes of each grit per side.
